Chief minister believes technology can be a key to governance
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis says sustainability is the key to development and technology can be a solution for that. “We know we have resources which are not finite and with every step towards development, a question is raised about sustainability. We need more disruptive technologies for sustainability. If we don’t, there will come a day when nothing will remain to consume,” Fadnavis said at the inaugural session of the 24th edition of the NASSCOM Leadership Forum in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Acknowledged as one of the most tech-savvy chief ministers in the country, Fadnavis says the government is a big enterprise and technology can be a key to governance. “When we talk about democracy–of the people, by the people and for the people–I think the real depiction of democracy can be achieved through smart governance,” he said.
At present, the Maharashtra government offers 150 services online to its citizens and by August 15, it plans to increase the number to 250 services through its portal, Aaple Sarkar. “The government is all about providing the right services at the right time at the right cost transparently,” he said.
Fadnavis said earlier in Maharashtra, 75 permissions would be needed to start an industry and it could take as much as three years for them to come through. “We now have a single form with 25 permissions and in a stipulated time, each department has to address the request,” the chief minister said.
