What are some of the weirdest requests you’ve got?
Seeking to gain height by implants in the heel and under the scalp, creation of additional fortune lines in the hand to change destiny, change of facial appearance and colour, “I want a nose just like yours,” etc.
What do you do when a surgery goes wrong?
Prevention is better than cure. Try and select the right patients for right surgery. Also, it is better to get a psychiatric assessment of all patients who undergo surgery as a protocol to minimise this problem
Should you believe the ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures seen in ads?
There is a distinct difference between cosmetologists, who are not qualified as cosmetic or aesthetic plastic surgeons, and aesthetic plastic surgeons. Routinely, all the patients who undergo surgery get photographic documentation before and after surgery. Obviously, you have to believe if shown by a qualified plastic surgeon.
Are cosmetic surgeons regulated as much as other doctors?
Plastic cosmetic surgeons are regulated by Medical Council of India (MCI), Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Association of Plastic Surgeons of India (APSI).
Can six-pack abdomens be engineered? If yes, do they last?
Six packs can be engineered to a certain extent but they do not last. There is no excuse for regular gym work-out and scientific body building.
Which are the most popular surgery types in India?
Rhinoplasty (nose job), abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), breast enhancement/reduction, liposuction, facelift, botox, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery).
What is the upper and lower age limit to do a cosmetic surgery?
There is no age limit. Done by qualified plastic surgeons in good medical set up, it should ensure a very satisfying result.
Have you ever dissuaded someone from getting a surgery?
Many a time. Sometimes, the consultation starts with, “You have a good nose. Why do you want any surgery?”
How much does it cost for an average nose job or enhancement of the chest area?
On an average anywhere between Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 150,000.
What is the best way to get rid of stretch marks caused by delivery or weight loss?
Stretch marks are extremely difficult to correct by any means. We must understand that once a scar, always a scar. It can’t be erased completely but the appearance can be improved.
