India Gate, the symbol of India, seemingly wide open and welcoming, except that the times we live in makes it a distant, inaccessible monument. A vertical framing would perhaps have worked better, but otherwise an interesting, attractive composition

A cliched idea lifted by two things: The location is well chosen, with its unusual vertical stack of shanties rising up to rival the multi-storey apartment block, and by rendering it in black-and-white, the tonalities, textures and depth come out far better than they would have in colour
